Spotify daily mix – commentary part two

A while ago, I decided to take a critical look at the songs Spotify recommended to me. The result was this blogpost. It ended up being quite well-read plus, it was nice for me to write. That’s the reason why I thought it’s high time it had a part two. Seven songs from one of my Spotify daily mixes, ready, set, go!

Scars to your beautiful – Alessia Cara
Having this song first is a great idea! I can guarantee that I’ll sing along, off-key, on full volume to this song. Ab-so-lu-te-ly love it!

Solo dance – Martin Jensen
I remember Shazaming this song once when I was in the car with my mother. After that, I had it on repeat for maybe a week until I got bored of it and never listened to it again. Now, hearing it again was quite nice, especially because I wasn’t sick of hearing it over and over again, haha.

The joys of being a communication student – presentations

Presentations. Some will love giving them, other people would rather fake being sick just so they don’t have to do them. These people often think that they’re not good enough at talking or entertaining an audience. Don’t worry, it’s something that is easily learned.

Fear no more, because as a communication student I come across dozens of helpful videos, bar charts and articles when it comes to acing a presentation. This one might be a personal fave and I’d suggest watching this if you want a funny and good insight of what a succesful presentation consists of.

Now it’s time for me to excuse myself, I have a presentation to prepare. May this video send good vibes to me.

Adulthood is a myth

I often get cold sweats thinking about the fact that I’m a legal adult now. The big old 18 that I have to write down every time when I have to sign something. After circling around the sun this many times, people start to expect that you’ll have to get your life on track. From university major to dream job, from paying insurance to calling the doctor yourself instead of chickening out and begging your mum to call. One thing is sure: Adulthood is a myth!

The most inspiring video I’ve ever seen

When you ask my friends what my obsession is, chances are they’ll say journaling. For over two years I’ve been trying to document the lovely things in life: graduating high school, finding out who I really am, writing down quotes by my friends. The list goes on and on…

I have to admit that, even though I am a consistent journaller, I tend to get in a journaling rut every now and then. I can have an entire week without writing a single world, days where I just stare at my page, but nothing comes out.

I always tend to look for inspiration online to get me going again and a few months ago I stumbled upon this gorgeous video by Sonia from SoulPancake. I watched it and when it finished, I watched it again. It had me completely mesmerised. This one video is so well put together that it’s one that you can watch over and over again.

Whenever somebody tells me they want to get into journaling, I always send them the link to this video, hoping it can spark some inspiration. It certainly did with me and I hope you’ll get the same feeling as I did after watching it.

Spotify daily mix – commentary

If I had to describe myself in three words, It’d be something along the lines of ‘Avid Spotify user’. Countless hours per day are filled with jamming along to the newest songs, singing along with the lyrics and suffering through the ads (the perks of not being a premium user). A while ago, I discovered the spotify daily mix a.k.a the best playlist ever. I, the music lover, decided to jot my thoughts down for the first seven songs of the day.

1. By your side feat. Raye – Jonas Blue
I Shazamed this song a while ago when it was used for a Say Yes To The Dress commerical, but I sort of forgot about it for a few weeks. Then, all of sudden, it popped up in this playlist and I immediately remembered it. Love this song, I really do!

2. All time low – Jon Bellion
Back when I first downloaded Spotify, which was only in December 2016 (Yes, I was very late to the party), I found a playlist that consisted of the best songs of 2016. This was one of the few songs that made it to my very own ‘January jams’ playlist, but I totally forgot about after the first month ended. It was nice to hear it again a few weeks later!

3. Castle on the hill – Ed Sheeran
Okay, So I basically still hadn’t listened to this song until the moment it came up in this playlist… Shame on me! I just never really felt like listening to Ed’s new album, but I’m very glad this song ended up in here! Be right back, listening to his entire album as I speak!

4. It ain’t me feat. Selena Gomez – Kygo
I’m incredibly glad the daily mix playlist introduced me to this song, since I heard it a couple of times on the radio, but I just didn’t know whose song it was. The look on my face was totally priceless.

5. Roman Holiday – Halsey
What’s a playlist without a little bit of Halsey, right? This is actually my favorite song by her, so kudos to the algorithm making these playlists for me, since they really do know what I like!

6. Stay feat. Alessia Cara – Zedd
Did someone say festival vibes? I was introduced to this song last March when me and my friends were chilling in an abandoned classroom, so when this song came up, it brought me back to that back. I lo-lo-love this song so much. Period.

7. Dangerously – Charlie Puth
Again, the algorithms are really doing their best! Yet another personal fave by an artist that ended up in the playlist. I think I love this song and this playlist dangerously.

‘Enjoy 30 minutes non-stop music thanks to the following advert.’
Sigh, I think that means I have to stop now, even Spotify has had enough of this blogpost.

Introducing: Dutch musicians

Every morning there’s another start
Every morning hits so hard
Guess I’m running scared
Guess I’m running on empty

Ah, yes, this song is currently stuck in my head. However, chances are that you have no clue who the singer is. That’s okay, because not many people know any Dutch musicians at all! That calls for a short introduction to some of my Dutch faves and, the best part, they all sing in English so you can all scream along with the lyrics!

4 reasons why you should start watching How To Get Away With Murder

I’m not the biggest bingewatcher when it comes to watching shows. No, I’d even say I’m a really picky person when it comes to dedicating precious time to staring at a screen. However, I put that all aside when a friend of mine introduced me to How To Get Away With Murder last December. Never have I ever watched a show in such a short timespan. It’s definitely one of the best shows I’ve watched, so that’s why I compiled a list of four reasons why you should give it a chance as well (if you haven’t already, of course).
